The essential plugins are mandatory for every WordPress site and there has not been a drastic change within the top plugins in WordPress. While there are for sure plenty of options out there, all the listed plugins are something that WPTipster has used on more than one occasion.

- Yoast SEO – The top SEO plugin for WordPress year after year. Is the the most popular one out there and has large selection of extensions as well.
- The SEO Framework – A solid contender for Yoast SEO but not yet as popular. Is rich in features as well plus the user interface is very simple and easy to understand.
- SEO Ultimate – Has a lot of features as well but not necessarily something I would use for THE site. What I like the most about SEO Ultimate, is the ability to change multiple meta descriptions at once. This makes it ideal for secondary sites where you just wish to make changes quickly on the go.
- All in one SEO pack – Another solid SEO plugin that you could give a try on lower level sites just to mix things up a bit.

Since the search engines are getting smarter and smarter all the time, the performance has been one of the hot topics among SEO specialists as well. While there are a lot of things to consider when measuring the page performance, here are few great plugins that may give you an edge over the competition.
Plugins to optimise images:
- WP Offload S3 – Reduce your server’s workload by serving images through Amazon. Gives a nice boost after implementation (Amazon Web Services -plugin required as well).
- EWWW Image Optimizer – Plugin for image optimization to reduce the size of images. While there are few others out there as well, the differences have not been that drastic that I would have bothered to switch.
- Regenerate thumbnails – For all theme developers out there I would consider this a vital plugin. Once the graphic designer decides to change the layout you can re-size images on the fly.

- W3 Total Cache – Probably the most popular plugin for caching. Have not really used plugins anymore for caching for a while, but this provides a quick fix for most of us. You can also concatenate and minify your code with W3 Total Cache. I do this with Gulp myself as I prefer to build custom themes.
Using CDN with WordPress
Using CDN provides you a significant improvement in Google Page Speed. Cloudflare offers a quick fix to this and you can get started with the free option. Cloudflare also has a WordPress plugin so it is easy to clear the cache directly from WordPress when necessary.
