Remove website url from WordPress comments

Allowing comments on your website allows your visitors to communicate with you and other visitors. While there are other hosted options for comments, the build in comment system is quite good option. However the default “Website URL” input might be something that most of us website owners don’t want to display on our site.

WPTipster uses the standard WordPress comments system, but there are other options available as well. Options like Disqus and Facebook Comments are great way to reduce your server load, as the comment platform is not hosted directly on your server.

How to remove the Website url from comments?

The easiest way to remove the field from comments, is to add the following code into your functions.php file.

/**
* Remove Website from Comments
*/
function disable_comment_website($fields) {
    unset($fields['url']);
    return $fields;
}
add_filter('comment_form_default_fields','disable_comment_website');

This simple solution will do the trick and Website field is no longer displayed on your WordPress site. While there are plugins that do the same, we don’t really see a point in installing a plugin to do something that can be achieved with very few lines of code. If you don’t have the access to modify the code, plugin approach might be the best bet for you.
