How to exclude internal traffic from Google Analytics

Excluding internal traffic to your website provides you more accurate information. Specially for new websites that aren’t yet generating a lot of traffic including internal traffic really messes up your data. Amount of sessions tells a bit too positive story and on the other hand, if you have set up goals this data will tell a bit too negative story.

While eventually this will of course even out it is still good practice to set things straight right away. However you should of course return and perfect your tracking every now and then. At WPTipster we constantly monitor and perfect everything related to our site.

Internal traffic may include the following:

  • Home IP address
  • Work / office IP address

Basically all traffic that is coming from sources, that aren’t classified as genuine visitors.
